New Batman Animated Series Coming From Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams And Matt Reeves

Batman: Caped Crusader

Batman has been brought to screens big and small so many times, it's a wonder anyone can find something new to do or say. But still the Bat-projects keep coming, and while the character has been very effective in animated form before, the idea of Bruce Timm – who created the iconic Batman: The Animated Series returning to the world of another Bruce (Wayne), makes Batman: Caped Crusader that much more exciting.

And Timm isn't alone – JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves, who have collaborated on TV before, are part of the producing team here, which makes us wonder whether the new show will have anything to do with The Batman (given that it already has a TV spin-off in the works built around the Gotham PD, that's harder to judge).

It's perhaps not surprising to learn that a series about one of Warners/DC's most popular characters featuring a powerhouse creative team is headed straight to series, with HBO Max and Cartoon Network stumping up the cash. "We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City," say Timm, Abrams and Reeves. "The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world." There's no sign yet where the show might air in the UK.
