After some honestly less-than-convincing chatter about Netflix potentially losing control of hit Addams Family spin-off Wednesday to Amazon over the latter's deal with MGM, comes more concrete word on the future of Jenna Ortega's Tik Tok-inspiring doom merchant: Netflix has confirmed the series will be back for a second season. Check out the video announcement...
We're not surprised in the slightest: not only has Wednesday been huge in terms of pure viewing figures (at least as much as the streaming service will say), but it's become big on social media and inspired a fervent fanbase.
And yes, while that hasn't necessarily been a saving grace for every show while Netflix has been in a cancellation-happy mode, the combo was a potent one. Regardless of the fact that A) the deal for the show was hammered out a long time before the MGM/Amazon one, B) Amazon has shown a willingness to let its properties appear elsewhere and C) given the reaction, there was no way Netflix wasn't going to hold on to this one with a grip to make Thing proud.
Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who have already begun scouting locations and figuring out the second batch of episodes, hit Netflix's TUDUM site with an announcement: “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
