What do you get when you combine Joe Barton, the creator of some of the most cerebral TV of modern times (Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project to name but two) with action auteur and noted pyromaniac Mr Michael Bay? When a Joe-splosion meets pure Bay-hem? It looks like we’re about to find out, as it’s been confirmed that Barton and Bay have a bounty hunter series in the works for Prime Video.
The project, hailing from A+E Studios (also aboard Apple TV+’s recently-announced Tom Hardy starrer Lazarus, no relation to The Lazarus Project), has been created and written by Barton with Bay set to direct. Set in the world of “gringo hunters”, the series will centre on an American bounty hunter working south of the border who finds himself fighting for survival when one of his marks lands them both in trouble with the Mexican cartel. “I was inspired about five years ago hanging out down in Costa Rica, with a former US Federal Agent, who surfs every day, living the good life,” Ambulance director Bay said of the roots for his latest project. “He supports his fun, relaxed lifestyle in Costa Rica by tracking down ‘Bad Gringos’ hiding out down in South America.”
In a statement accompanying the series’ announcement, Barton – whose timey-wimey Lazarus Project returns for Season 2 later this year – shared his own hype for the “thrilling and action-filled” show, stating that he “couldn’t be more excited.” Neither could we, Joe.
