Only Murders In The Building is, by any measurable metric, one of the best current shows. Yet despite superb performances and great writing, it has bagged few awards. So what to do? Hiring awards magnet Meryl Streep would certainly help — and while the OMITB team didn't secure her services for that reason, she's sure to fit in well.

As seen in the twitter post from Steve Martin directly below (and Selena Gomez' Instagram post lower down the page, which makes gentle fun of the new arrival), Streep joins the cast, which already includes Martin, Gomez, Martin Short and, as introduced in the Season 2 finale, Paul Rudd.

Only Murders has usually taken place, as the title suggests, within the Arconia building, where Martin, Gomez and Short's characters team up to solve murders, starting a podcast in the process. But for Season 3, it'll expand out to the world of Broadway (Short's Oliver Putnam is a theatre director, while Martin's Charles-Haden Savage is an actor). Rudd is portraying Ben Glenroy, a snobbish-seeming theater actor who (spoiler alert unless you've watched the S2 finale) will be the upcoming season’s victim.

Filming is now underway on the new season, but there's no set date for the show to return yet. All we can say is not soon enough! Meanwhile, the first two seasons are available to stream on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.
