In its continuing mission to add more shows to Disney+, Marvel is already in the holiday special business, via James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy Christmas special, which will be shot at the same time as Volume 3. According to a report from The Wrap, the MCU is also looking to make a Halloween special.
The site has learned that team Marvel is aiming to cast a Latino lead in a yet-to-be-titled Halloween special that may – emphasis at the may, since the sources couldn't confirm – adapt the Werewolf By Night concept.
First created by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog based on concepts by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas, the original version of the character first appeared in a 1972 issue of Marvel Spotlight before he scored his own ongoing Werewolf By Night series that ran for 43 issues before its end in 1977. Most notably, it boasts the first appearance of Moon Knight, the character that Oscar Isaac will bring to Disney+ next year.
And the lyncathrope – who can transform even without a full moon and retains his personality as a werewolf – was re-invented as Jake Gomez, just last year in Werewolf By Night (Vol. 3) #1, created by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff and Scot Eaton, Gomez, a member of the Hopi Native American tribe whose family has been cursed with lycanthropy, comes in conflict with a nefarious pharmaceutical company exploiting members of the tribe.
There are no more details around at the moment, as Marvel naturally won't comment – but it's certainly an intriguing development. But what's next? A Loki April Fool's special? Actually... we'd totally watch that.
