Who’s spinning off into their own Marvel show? It's Agatha ‘All Along’ Harkness – Kathryn Hahn’s breakout (spoiler alert!) villain from this year’s WandaVision series. Among the many delights of the Scarlet Witch-centric sitcom-mystery-drama was Hahn’s delightful performance as nosy neighbour Agnes, later revealed to be powerful MCU witch Agatha Harkness in disguise, with her own designs on Wanda’s reality-altering powers. And since she was (again, spoiler alert) left alive in the series’ finale, it’s not exactly a surprise that the breakout character is being set up for her own Disney+ series, as reported by Variety.
Details are scarce for now, but reports indicate that the show will be a dark comedy written and executive produced by WandaVision’s head writer Jac Schaeffer – with Hahn obviously reprising the role. The bigger question: will she get more catchy theme tunes, courtesy of Frozen hitmakers Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez? Give us an entire album please, stat! Not only did WandaVision dominate the cultural conversation through the early months of 2021, but spooky ditty ‘Agatha All Along’ became a chart-bothering hit in its own right, reaching the #1 spot on iTunes, and denting the Billboard chart at #36.
It sounds like the Agatha Harkness show is in early stages at Marvel – but given the character's witchy powers, they’d do well to perhaps pitch this one as a Halloween treat for 2022. In the meantime, there’s plenty more MCU goodness coming to Disney+ soon – with Hawkeye on the horizon, followed by Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight. Bring on Agatha’s purple reign.
