Marvel's Disney+ series Ironheart continues to gather its creative team. On the heels of speculation that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler would be involved in some capacity, comes confirmation that he'll be among the producers. And, on the further progress front, Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes are on board as the directors for the show.
Ironheart follows Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. She's clearly being lined up to assume the mantle of Tony Stark's tech-heavy heroism with a different approach. The character was created for Marvel Comics by Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, Eve Ewing and Kevin Libranda.
Coogler's involvement is no shocker – Thorne's character is making her actual MCU debut in his upcoming Panther sequel Wakanda Forever and Ironheart's Anthony Ramos let slip about him working on the show recently.
Bailey is the co-creator of the Emmy-nominated show Brown Girls and the creator of You’re So Talented, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also worked as a producer and director on the final season of Netflix’s Dear White People.
Barnes, meanwhile, is a prolific TV director, having handled episodes of shows including Mythic Quest, Blindspotting and the upcoming season 4 of Atlanta.
Ironheart, given that it's still at an early stage, has yet to lock in a release date on Disney+. Following current Marvel series Moon Knight, the next show to debut will be Ms. Marvel on 8 June.
