Marvel and Disney are clearly wasting no time in building out their small screen universe. But though you might be thinking that the news is about an Agatha Harkness spin-off or The Adventures Of White Vision, Variety reports that the companies are in the very early stages of developing a spin-off from the Hawkeye series.
It's doubly surprising given that the Hawkeye show is months away from airing and the character under consideration – Alaqua Cox's Maya "Echo" Lopez – hasn't even been seen on screen before. Still, that isn't stopping Marvel Studios from hiring Get Hard's Etan Cohen and wife/co-writer Emily to start assembling a writers' room.
Echo in the comics (and, we can assume in the series) is a deaf Native American who has the ability to perfectly mimic another person's movements or fighting style, which makes her a tough opponent in battle.
Despite the early work on the show, there's no guarantee that this series will go forward, it's a clear sign of confidence from the MCU team. Hawkeye, which has yet to score an airdate, is expected later this year, with Jeremy Renner back as Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld as his protege Kate Bishop.
