Ready your elven forge. Because after what seems like a Fifth Age since our last visit to Middle-earth, Prime Video has just dropped the first trailer for The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2. The first batch of episodes ended with chaos reigning. The first rings of power had been forged, the Dark Lord had been revealed and the fate of elves, dwarves and men hung in the balance as Mount Doom erupted for the first time and Mordor began to teem with evil. So things are going just fabulously as we rejoin Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and the rest of the show’s sprawling line-up when it returns on 29 August. As you can see from the trailer, Sauron has returned and is now sporting a new, alluring form as he continues to weave his influence among the races of Middle-earth, as well as giving us just a glimpse of his enormous power. But don’t take our word for it. You can watch the Dark Lord in all his evil splendour in the trailer below.

Orcs! Sea beasts! Giant eagles! Moths! If there’s one thing this trailer does, it’s remind us just how huge the scope of this show is — both in terms of its vast canvas and the wide-ranging cast of characters, from the men of Númenór to the Elves of Lindon, the people of the Southlands, and the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm. Not to mention the heroic little Harfoots! With yet more faces joining the show this year, including Círdan the shipwright (if you know, you know) and the forging of more rings ahead, we're now counting down the days until the show’s return.

It’s been a great year all round for Tolkienites, this trailer arriving hot on the heels of last week’s news that Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis are joining forces to bring us another Lord Of The Rings film in The Hunt For Gollum, plus we have the arrival of animated equestrian epic The War Of The Rohirrim set to make its cinema debut later in the year. Debuting at the end of August, The Rings Of Power's second season is now just over three months away, we just wish it would move a little faster. After all, one does not simply walk into Mordor…
