With the rise of streaming services, the demand for new movies and TV shows has also ramped up the raiding of the archives for existing movies and TV shows that can be repurposed. We can quite pin this new Fatal Attraction on that exactly, though, as it's been in the works since 2015. Still, now we know that Lizzy Caplan will star in a series based on the movie for Paramount+.
Dirty John writer Alexandra Cunningham write the script based on a take she came up with alongside Kevin J. Hynes. Caplan will take over the role of Alex (as played in the movie by Glenn Close), who becomes obsessed with her lover after a brief affair.
The film has, of course, always been controversial and divisive, so we'll have to see what Cunningham and her team do to give the concept an updated spin. We do know that, according the series' logline, it'll be "a deep-dive reimagining of the classic psychosexual thriller and 80s cultural touchstone Fatal Attraction through the lens of modern attitudes on strong women, personality disorders, victim shaming and coercive control."
"There’s a very timeless appeal to the themes of fidelity and infidelity, why good people make very dumb, problematic choices, and just marriage and family against those themes of fidelity and infidelity," Paramount+ chief content officer David Nevins tells Deadline in an interview earlier this week. "I think the writers have come up with a very smart way to make it very contemporary while also honoring the original. How it’s done for today and how it’s turned into a series is interesting, and it’s interesting for Lizzy’s part in particular."
