Given how Master Of None evolved between its first and second seasons, you might not be too shocked to learn that it has undergone another metamorphosis. But following the misconduct allegations that swirled around co-creator and star Aziz Ansari, he has stepped back from in front of the camera to focus on co-writing and directing, while regular co-writer (and breakout star of S2) Lena Waithe becomes the focus of the third run, with the first trailer online.

This new season chronicles the relationship of Denise (Waithe) and her partner Alicia (the excellent Naomi Ackie). It's described as "a modern love story that intimately illustrates the ups and downs of marriage, struggles with fertility, and personal growth both together and apart. Fleeting romantic highs meet crushing personal losses while existential questions of love and living are raised."

Waithe, of course, shared an Emmy with Ansari for the Thanksgiving episode, has gone on to even bigger things, creating shows such as The Chi and writing movies including Queen & Slim. You just know, then, that she'll shine given the shifted storytelling. Master Of None returns to Netflix (at last, since S2 landed in 2017) on 23 May.
