While it might not be taking as long as fellow HBO Max comedy Hacks to make it to our shores, UK audiences are still waiting with impatience for when James Gunn's The Suicide Squad spin-off TV series Peacemaker will land here. The show is about to wrap up its first season in the States, but the good news, as tweeted out by Gunn himself, is that a second season is now official.
Peacemaker, which stars John Cena as the violent anti-hero whose credo is "peace at any cost" (no matter who he has to kill to achieve that aim), digs under the shiny helmet to explore the man himself.
We won't say too much about the story for fear of spoilers, but Peacemaker (AKA Christopher Smith) is joined by fellow Squad alumni Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee), plus the likes of Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) and Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) to face down a new threat. Along the way, we also get to meet the real star of the show, Peacemaker's pet and pal Eagly, a bald eagle.
The series, which features one of the most memorable opening credits sequences for a long time, finishes season one tomorrow. Gunn hasn't said when he'll work on the second (he's a little busy with Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 right now), and has a plan for another Squad spin-off also cooking away, but hopefully we won't have to wait too long for more Peacemaker. Or, for UK readers, to even see the thing.
And even if you do have to keep on waiting for the show, you can read more about it in the latest issue of Empire, which arrives tomorrow (or today, if you're reading this on Thursday 17 Feb.)
