With the 60th anniversary on the way next year, the Doctor Who news is coming thick and fast. We have Ncuti Gatwa cast as the new Doctor, David Tennant and Catherine Tatereturning to the show, and now Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney is aboard. As a certain character called... Rose Tyler.

Yes, it would appear that Finney will at least be playing a version of the role made famous by Billie Piper and incoming (well, returning) show-runner Russell T. Davies is offering little information for now, the big tease.

"Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose?” he says in a statement. "You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world — and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!"

Whether Finney will just be on screen for the anniversary special or if she's the new companion remains to be seen, but it would certainly fun to see her running around with Gatwa.

"If anyone would have told 8-year-old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them,” Finney says. "This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get ready."

This latest Who news could really serve as a tie-in to the latest Pilot TV Podcast, which not only interviewed her Heartstopper co-star Joe Locke, but also speculated on who might be joining Gatwa in the TARDIS...
