Good news, Heartstopper hive – there’s going to be plenty more where that came from. Netflix’s adaptation of the hit webcomic-turned-graphic-novel series, about the burgeoning relationship between British teenagers Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), proved one of the televisual treats of the first half of the year – a sweet (and quietly groundbreaking) rom-com drama that earned top reviews, a sizable viewership, and plenty of love from the internet. It’s no surprise, then, that the series will be coming back to the streaming service – for not one but two more seasons.
The news was confirmed on social media by author Alice Oseman, who adapted her own source material for the first series, directed in its entirety by Euros Lyn. “I hope that it just makes people smile and brightens their day – but I also hope that it inspires, particularly, young queer people to believe that they can find happiness and find romance and find friendship,” says Oseman. Executive producer Patrick Walters adds: “We put so much love into the making of Heartstopper so to reassemble the team for two more seasons is a dream come true. I’m forever grateful to Alice Oseman for entrusting us with this beautiful, unique story that at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people. Stay tuned!” It’s yet to be confirmed whether Euros Lyn will also be back in the director’s chair.
With Season 1 covering the first two volumes of Oseman’s graphic novels, there are three more volumes of source material to draw from – though Volume 5 of the graphic novel isn’t released yet, and will be due early next year. Heartstopper won’t be stopping any time soon.
