Accio Harry Potter news! Following yesterday's announcement that the upcoming Harry Potter TV series adaptation has moved from Max to HBO (ie streaming to proper telly), today Deadline are reporting that Succession duo Mark Mylod and Francesca Gardiner have been set as director and writer respectively of the Wizarding World's latest expansion.

Said to be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling children's book series, HBO's Harry Potter will see an all-new cast assemble to retell the tale of The Boy Who Lived and his adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And whilst that cast remains as-yet-unconfirmed, the hiring of Mylod and Gardiner — the former of whom has big skin in the franchise game having helmed episodes of both Game Of Thrones and The Last Of Us; the latter of which being a dab hand with a family-friendly fantasy series having worked on BBC and HBO's His Dark Materials — bodes well for the series as its development continues.

With Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and the Fantastic Beasts franchise seemingly having met a premature end with 2022's The Secrets Of Dumbledore, HBO's Harry Potter is set to represent a big swing for the Wizarding World and its future. We'll find out whether it's pure magic or a bit of a Dumble-bore when it hits our screens in 2026.
