Halo: Season 2

It look a long, long time for a Halo adaptation to hit the screen. For years, there was talk of Neill Blomkamp making a Master Chief movie. Then a small-screen series version pinged around in development hell for years, until finally it was willed into existence – a streaming show on Paramount+, starring Pablo Schreiber as its central super-soldier. But after all that time spent making Halo happen, Halo will no longer be happening going forward: the series is not being picked up at Paramount+ for Season 3.

In the wake of Season 2, which delivered its final episode in March this year, the streamer has confirmed that it won’t be pursuing more instalments. “Paramount+ can confirm that ‘Halo’ will not move forward with a third season on the service,” reads a statement. “We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are thoughts that the show might be able to find a new home elsewhere – but whether the Spartan story will succeed in finding a new Array to inhabit going forwards remains to be seen. While the show received a mixed response overall – not always staying faithful to the games – its second season was more warmly welcomed. For now though, Plasma Rifles down, people.
