When he's not spending his time playing a calculating drug kingpin (or, these days, one on the rise on Better Call Saul), Giancarlo Esposito is enjoying a healthy career jumping between genres and characters. He's back with Saul/Breaking Bad network AMC for a new show, which will remake UK series The Driver.

The original 2014 BBC miniseries, created by Daniel Brocklehurst and Jim Poyser, starred David Morrisey as taxi driver Vince McKee, who finds his life taking an unexpected turn after he accepts an offer to drive for a criminal gang.

Brocklehurst, Theo Travers and Sunu Gonera are working on the new show, which transposes the story to New Orleans, where Esposito's cab driver faces trouble when he agrees to chauffeur a New Orleans-based Zimbabwean gangster notorious for exploiting undocumented immigrants at the US southern ports.

"I am over the moon excited, enthused, and inspired to be in collaboration with the stellar network and creative team of AMC," says the actor. "Thanks for believing in me. It’s great to be back home."

AMC has yet to release an official date for the new show, but it should be on screens next year. Better Call Saul, meanwhile, returns for the start of its sixth and (sob!) final season on 18 April.
