Jason Reitman – picking up the torch from father Ivan – and Gil Kenan brought the Ghostbusters universe successfully back to life with last year's Ghostbusters: Afterlife. They're expanding their reach by producing a new animated series based on the concept.

Variety brings word that Netflix will carry the show, with Sony Pictures Animation handling the actual production. Quite what the show is about is a mystery for now, and Reitman and Kenan appear unlikely to actually run it – they'll oversee the show, but will probably hire a writing staff to actually crank it out. Kenan in particular, though, has experience with animation, having made his directorial debut with 2006's Monster House.

This is far from the first that the Ghostbusters have been animated – The Real Ghostbusters racked up 140 episodes, while Extreme Ghostbusters notched up 40, and featured a largely new team led by Egon.
