Like a battering ram headed towards the door of a castle, the development of Game Of Thrones spin-offs trundles onwards. The latest news is that Amanda Segel will write at least the pilot for the 10,000 Ships series.

10,000 Ships will chronicle the journey made by warrior queen Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who travelled from Essos to Dorne following their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War. This migration took place around 1,000 years before the events depicted in the A Song Of Ice And Fire novels. One link is seen in Thrones itself via Arya's Direwolf, Nymeira who is named for the princess.

Segel's past work includes The Good Wife and Person Of Interest. She'll be hoping for some luck on this new project, especially since there are several other spin-offs in the works, with House Of The Dragon already shooting thanks to its series order and 9 Voyages, Flea Bottom, Dunk & Egg and a potential animated show all bubbling away.
