Sylvester Stallone might have plans for series based on his movies such as Rocky and Cobra in the works, but it appears his full return to TV is arriving via Taylor Sheridan's growing small screen empire. The first image of Stallone in Tulsa King has landed via streaming service Paramount+.

Once calledKansas City, the show follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone), who, as he’s released from prison after 25 years, is unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Realizing that his mob family might not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a “crew” from a group of unlikely characters to help him establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.

With The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire's Terence Winter running the show here, the series represents the streaming service (which should be launching in the UK this summer) pushing more big names in its shows.

Stallone used to pop up in small roles in TV series in the days before his film career took off, but more recently has been making cameos on shows and producing others. Tulsa King marks his first major lead role. There's no official release date for this one yet, but it could be on screens in the autumn.
