The last time we saw Alaqua Cox's deaf gang leader Maya Lopez, it was in her gunshot-featuring encounter with Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in the Hawkeye finale. For her own spin-off series, Echo, the story will turn back the clock to Maya's earlier days.
As the cameras start cranking on the series in Atlanta, the first image of Cox as Maya has emerged. The show is being described as an origin story, with the logline suggesting we'll dig into her past.
Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
A returning Zahn McClarnon (as Maya's ill-fated father, William Lopez) is part of the cast, alongside Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning and Graham Greene.
Behind the camera? Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie as the directors, with Marion Dayre running the show. Echo will be on Disney+ next year.
