If you’re truly everywhere all at once, then one of the many realities in which you must exist is the Star Wars galaxy – and that’s exactly where director duo Daniels (aka Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) found themselves recently. The freshly Oscar-minted pair behind Everything Everywhere All At Once and Swiss Army Man are confirmed to be blasting off to the galaxy far, far away, having directed an episode of upcoming series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, developed by Jon Watts and set in the Mando-era of the sprawling Star Wars timeline.

The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, and since confirmed by Daniel Kwan on Instagram – stating that he and Scheinert have helmed an instalment of the show. “We aren’t working on a whole series, we guest directed one episode,” he clarifies. “Jon Watts approached us to do an episode awhile ago (before EEAAO even came out.) We love Jon, love Star Wars, love learning new tech, we love meeting new cast and crew, and we needed the days to keep our healthcare (!!!) so it was an easy yes. We shot it last year and had an amazing time working with the most talented cast and crew and I’m excited for you all to see it.”

Kwan statement was also a case of pushing back at people projecting their fear at Daniels getting – as he puts it – “sucked up by the ‘corporate machine’”, promising more off-the-wall Daniels madness to come. “Our next film will be an original Daniels project so you can stop worrying (and stop bothering me about it),” he writes. Stay tuned for a scene in which a lightsaber ignites, and the blade is a glowing blue hotdog.

Expect more news on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in early April – for now, we mainly know it’ll be a story about kids lost in the galaxy, with Jude Law among the cast. Not playing one of the kids though, obviously.
