Forget The Suicide Squad, folks — we're all about Creature Commandos now! Despite James Gunn and DC Studios not actually having a dedicated panel at this year's Comic-Con due to Superman shooting commitments, the filmmaker still found time to beam into San Diego during DC Comics CCO Jim Lee's "Jim Lee & Friends" panel to share an official teaser for his first DCU 'Gods And Monsters' project. Written by Gunn and boasting an all-star voice cast including Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Sean Gunn (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3), Viola Davis (The Suicide Squad), and Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the animated series follows the exploits of Task Force M — aka Task Force Monster — a black ops team assembled by government official Amanda Waller (Davis) after Task Force X are outlawed. Meet the team in the new teaser below:

As fans of Peacemaker will recall, the first series' finale saw Amanda Waller's daughter Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) publicly out her mother's Task Force X operation. And whilst the canonical status of the show's first season is somewhat up in the air, Rick Flag Sr.'s (Grillo) "I thought congress put a stop to all Task Force X activities" at the start of this new trailer at least confirms Creature Commandos takes place in a universe where the Suicide Squad are out of action. That's about as much plot detail as we get in this strikingly stylised teaser, but we do at least get a good look at Gunn's latest assemblage of soon-to-be-fan-favourite misfits here.

Amongst Task Force M's ranks are Chalotra's sorceress Circe, Indira Varma's Elsa Lanchester styled The Bride, Alan Tudyk's radioactive Doctor Phosphorous, David Harbour's Eric Frankenstein, Zoë Chao's amphibious scientist Nina Mazursky, and Sean Gunn's double role as both cunningly named military android G.I. Robot and his The Suicide Squad character Weasel. Steve Agee and Maria Baklava are also in Creature Commandos' wider ensemble and will play A.R.G.U.S agent John Economos and Princess Ilana Rostovic respectively. And, with Gunn having previously revealed that the DCU's live-action and animated projects will work in tandem, we can look forward to seeing many of this starry array across mixed media in the years ahead.

For now at least, that's about as much as we know about Creature Commandos. But with the series now set to hit our screens in December, Gunn gearing up to take another line-up of comic book deep cuts and give them their moment in the limelight, and a cast stuffed to the Gill(-man)s with exceptional talent, it seems DC Studios' new head honcho is starting as he means to go on with a banger straight outta the gate. "These assholes aren't human," says Davis' Waller in the trailer — but they sure as shit may just be your next favourite team of supes. Weasel hive rise up!
