We've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. And some very exciting Blade Runner casting news! Per Deadline's reporting, Hunger Games star Hunter Schafer is set to take on a major role in Silka Luisa's (Shining Girls) upcoming Prime Video limited series Blade Runner 2099, the first live-action project in the sci-fi franchise since 2017's Blade Runner 2049.
Schafer, who made her name playing Jules Vaughn in HBO's Euphoria and is soon to be seen in Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds Of Kindness, will be joined in the series by Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, whose involvement in the project was confirmed last month. Joining her on her journey into the world of Replicants and Runners are original Blade Runner director Sir Ridley Scott, who's aboard as an executive producer on the show, and Shōgun's Jonathan van Tulleken, who will direct the series' first two episodes.
As for who Schafer and Yeoh will play, what the story will be about, or when we can expect to see it, all those details remain firmly under wraps for now. We do however know that following delays relating to last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on Blade Runner 2099 began in Prague this Spring. And we'll bring you more news about our return to the world Philip K. Dick built just as soon as we get it. Now if you'll excuse us, we're just going to go and check something. Cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked. Within cells interlinked. Phew — still not a Replicant!
