For years now, Billie Piper has been an unstoppable screen force – from her years on Doctor Who, through Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, to her recent output as a creator in I Hate Suzie and Rare Beasts. Now, she’s joining a series we couldn’t be more excited to see, in which she’ll take on an incredible new role: that of previous Empire Editor-in-Chief (hello to our former glorious leader) Terri White, in the screen adaptation of her memoir Coming Undone.

As reported by Deadline, Piper will take on the leading role in the show which is being produced at Bad Wolf (also behind His Dark Materials and A Discovery Of Witches), and will be coming to Netflix. Terri (or, ‘White’, as we should more formally refer to her) is adapting the book for the screen herself, while Piper is also on board as an executive producer. Even if we didn’t know Terri, this is an extremely exciting combination of creative talents working together – and all set to come to a major streamer near you in the not-too-distant future. But we do know Terri, and so that news is additionally thrilling.

Coming Undone charts White’s experiences of abuse in early life, and explores the ways in which that trauma manifested while she worked at a major magazine in New York city. Empire will be contacting White for comment (most probably on WhatsApp), and the entire Empire team simply says: “We are incredibly proud of our former boss”.

UPDATE: White released the following statement to Empire (yes, via WhatsApp): “Billie Piper. Actual Billie Piper! As she’s shown with the likes of I Hate Suzie and her directorial debut Rare Beasts, whether behind the camera or in front of it, Billie is a complete force. I’m completely over the moon (and still shocked, to be honest) that she’s not only starring in our adaptation of Coming Undone but exec producing it. The absolute dream.”
