Mike White had a big success last year with White Lotus, set at the titular Hawaiian resort where a bunch of terrible rich people and the complicated folk who try to cater to their whims were subject to the writer/director's critical eye. He's been hard at work writing another season of the show, and is building the cast. Aubrey Plaza is the latest addition.
Not much is known about the new season, other than it'll follow more guests and staff at a White Lotus facility, albeit a different one from the original. Plaza is on to play Harper Spiller, a woman on vacation with her husband and his friends. Michael Imperioli landed a role last week, playing Dominic Di Grasso, who travels to the White Lotus resort with his elderly father and son, a recent college graduate, in tow.
There has been chatter that Jennifer Coolidge, who was one of the highlights of last season, might be returning, but HBO has yet to confirm whether A) she'll be back and B) if she'll once again play grieving wealthy type Tanya McQuoid.
As for Plaza, it's shaping up to be a good year for fans of the comedy favourite, since she'll show up in Guy Ritchie's next film, Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre (out 18 March), has signed on to drama series Olga Dies Dreaming and will be voicing a character in animated show Little Demon.
