As one of the highlights of Apple TV+'s line up, video game company comedy Mythic Quest has played with format, blended laughs with heart and crafted possibly the best episode of telly to tackle the pandemic's zoom-inflicted stress. Apple is clearly happy with it, handing down a two-season renewal, announced via a funny video featuring co-creator Rob McElhenney alongside Anthony Hopkins and Jason Sudeikis.
Created by McElhenney, Charlie Day and Megan Ganz, Mythic Quest finds McElhenney as Ian Grimm, the arrogant, weird creative director of the biggest massively multiplayer online roleplaying game in history. He's joined in the company by a group of developers, assistants, marketing folk and even an aging sci--fi writer, with the cast also including F. Murray Abraham, Danny Pudi, Imani Hakim, Charlotte Nicdao, Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis and David Hornsby.
The end of season 2 saw the creative team throw a spanner in the works as Ian and Nicdao's Poppy decided to go off and work on their own project, leaving manager David (Hornsby) in the lurch. At least now we'll get to see how it all plays out. Beyond the fact that the show will return next year (the writers are meeting back up to plan season 3 soon), there's no strict release date for the next run of episodes.
