Among the many things widely beloved by the internet, ‘Andrew Garfield’ and ‘true-crime stories’ both rank highly. If you’re in the middle of that considerable venn diagram, start looking forward to upcoming limited series Under The Banner Of Heaven – a true-crime drama starring (you guessed it) Andrew Garfield as Pyre, a fundamelist Christian detective whose faith is rocked by a brutal murder he investigates. The first trailer for the series has now arrived – and while it doesn’t exactly find the actor in Spider-Man or Tick, Tick… BOOM! mode, it looks like a stellar vehicle for one of the most beloved actors on the planet right now.

The series is based on Jon Krakauer’s nonfiction book about the death of Brenda Lafferty – here played by Normal People and Fresh star Daisy Edgar-Jones. Elsewhere, the top-tier cast for this one includes Avatar’s Sam Worthington, Wyatt Russell, Rory Culkin, and Denise Gough (soon to be seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spin-off series Andor). The series is created by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black, screenwriter of Milk, and directed in part by Hell Or High Water and Outlaw King filmmaker David Mackenzie.

While Under The Banner Of Heaven looks like a hot property in the streaming world, its UK release is yet TBC. In the US, it’s an FX production for Hulu – so expect a possible Disney+ home on these shores. The series will begin streaming in America this Spring. We’ll let you know when our Spidey senses start tingling for a release plan this side of the Atlantic.
