It's hard to believe it's been over two years now since Andor arrived on Disney+ and radically rewrote the script for what a Star Wars story could be. Launched to more than a smidge of scepticism (even now, the idea of a prequel-to-a-prequel centred around a secondary character from spin-off joint Rogue One sounds unhinged), Tony Gilroy's Peabody winning exploration of the rise of the rebellion — and radicalisation of Diego Luna's Cassian Andor — in the five years prior to A New Hope wound up becoming one of the most gripping, exhilarating, fresh feeling TV shows, Star Wars or otherwise, any of us had seen in recent memory. Now, after a long wait for updates on the show's second season, this weekend's D23 Brazil event has given us a release date for Cassian and co's return at long last.

As sort-of leaked earlier today (the Disney+ mobile app clearly trucks not with NDAs!), we now have official confirmation that Andor Season 2 is set to land on the streamer on 22 April, 2025. And, as we learned when Empire spoke to showrunner Tony Gilroy last year, today's panel also reaffirmed that the show's 12-episode second season will span four years, with each three-episode block covering another year in the build-up to the exact moment Andor blasts Daniel Mays' rebel informant Tivik in the chest at the start of Rogue One. And, as Gilroy himself told us, that final block of eps will specifically be dedicated to the final three days before said Mays blasting, with the series as a whole set to explore the difficulties of building a revolution and what happens to those who sparked it when more bodies join the cause.

Among the cast returning alongside Luna for Andor Season 2 are Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen Rael, Genevieve O’Reilly's Mon Mothma, Kyle Soller's Syril Karn, Adria Arjona's Bix Caleen, Denise Gough's Dedra Meero, Faye Marsay's Vel Sartha, and Varada Sethu's Cinta Kaz. They'll be joined by the previously revealed Ben Mendelsohn as Director Orson Krennic, and — as Collider learned last month — Alan Tudyk's droid K2SO. And whilst we may know exactly where Andor is ultimately heading (there can, after all, be only ONE WAY OUT! ONE WAY OUT! ONE WAY OUT! for our heroes and villains here), we cannot wait to see just how exactly it gets there. Only 163 sleeps to go!
