By all accounts, this has been a pretty damn good year to be a fan of the Alien franchise. The last few months have seen a flurry of activity surrounding Sir Ridley Scott's perfect sci-fi organism, with the release of Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus, word of a Romulus sequel already, confirmation of an Alien Isolation sequel, and promising early teases for Noah Hawley's upcoming Alien: Earth series sending xeno Stans into a frenzy. And now FX have just dropped another mouthwatering glimpse at what Hawley and his intrepid crew (Sydney Chandler! Timothy Olyphant! Alex Lawther! Essie Davies!) have been cooking up. Check out the structural perfection — and the hostility — of the latest trailer below:
Now, we may have grown used to that shot of our dear old planet Earth reflected against a salivating xenomorph's bonce in the last few months, and this latest teaser for Alien: Earth scarcely strays from that particular visual in its brief 30 seconds, but listen to the voiceover and you'll find an intriguing tidbit of new info about the show. "In 2120," intones an unidentified male speaker, "Mother Earth is expecting." Not only is this a badass tag-line for Hawley's Alien spin-off show — it's also confirmation of this new series' setting within the Alien timeline. And, contrary to earlier whispers that this new project would swerve Scott's Prometheus chronology and strike out on its own path, this 2120 setting places Alien: Earth 27 years post-Prometheus in the franchise timeline, instead taking place just two years prior to the events of the original Alien. Very interesting...
And here's the latest plot description for the show, per Deadline: “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat. As members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined. With this new threat unlocked, the search crew must fight for survival, and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it.”
What exact version of the xenomorph will this new crew find? Will it all somehow tie in to the fate of Nostromo? And if so, how? Also, can we find a way to bring back David please? The answers to at least some of these questions will be revealed soon, with Alien: Earth now confirmed to be arriving on Disney+ in Summer 2025.
