On the 6th August 2019, Guillermo del Toro was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Anyone who watched his speech (and if you haven’t, you should) will know that he told the gathered crowd something very valuable – that it’s OK to be weird.
Think of the iconic Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy or The Shape of Water, and thoughts will quickly turn to the incredible practical effects. Fauno, The Asset, Hellboy and Abe Sapien are all shocking and stunning for their twisted and uncanny realism - and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark only adds to this list. This is one of the things that del Toro, a former special effect makeup artist, does best (in addition to the creation of innovative narrative and lore).
In the spirit of paying tribute to del Toro’s marvellous creations, here is a list of the best products to show your support and enthusiasm for the offbeat, the strange and the wonderful.

Guillermo del Toro Cabinet of Curiosities: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions
In his foreword, James Cameron describes this book as "an unprecedented portal into the clockworks of a wondrous mind." It is exactly that, letting reader glimpse at the notebooks, sketches and inspirations behind del Toro's seminal works.
Pale Man with Underworld Throne (Pan's Labyrinth) Neca Action Figure
He sits on this throne, baggy skinned, palm-eyed and wholly creepy. Nonetheless, an incredible and unforgettable character design.
Funko Pop! Pan's Labyrinth Fauno
OK, Pale Man might be a bit much for the bedside table – he's quite a sight for first thing in the morning – a three-inch Fauno might be a little more manageable.
Pacific Rim Gipsy Danger 7" Deluxe Action Figure
Pacific Rim, Del Toro's homage to Japanese mecha and kaiju traditions, is a spectacle. This model lets you take control of Gipsy Danger without having the impracticality of needing a reliable drifting buddy (or hunk of Kaiju brain).
The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan
The vampiric curse is a contagion that must not be allowed to devastate civilisation. Del Toro teamed up with thriller writer Chuck Hogan build on the mythologies laid down in 1897 by Bram Stoker's Dracula to create a blockbuster-esque modern-day vampire tale. The Strain was adapted for TV by FX.
Funko Pop! Guillermo Del Toro
Who else could they've chosen to be model 666? Funko del Toro is a fitting likeness, clinging to a leather, skull adorned tome. A small and reassuring reminder that it's OK to be a little weird.
