When you think of fantasy films, what springs to mind. Is it swords and sorcery, heroes battling beasts and wizards flinging spells? For this list of our favourite fantasies available on Blu-ray, we went with a group of movies that expands the genre beyond those basic confines.

Certainly there are some fantasy stalwarts here – your Lord Of The Rings, your Willow, but we've also selected some movies that use the concept as a lens to shine a light on other subjects. Check out the way Tim Burton twists the idea to his needs, or the beautiful, dark themes that Guillermo del Toro brings to his most famous film. Fantasy can be used in so many ways and our list includes several of them, with some aimed at the family audience, others that will spark nostalgic joy and some that will poke into the darker corners of the genre. Enjoy!
