Zac Efron: Serial killer? If director Joe Berlinger has his way, that'll definitely be the case, at least on screen. Efron is leading the cast of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile.

Michael Werde wrote the script, while explores the crimes of infamous killer Ted Bundy through the eyes of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. Despite years of denial about his horrific murders, she eventually turned him into the police. But even she wasn't quire aware of the extent of his actions until he began talking about them closer to his execution.

After floating around the Black List of popular scripts for a while, Extremely Wicked has been snagged by Paradise Lost director Berlinger, no stranger to true crime tales. Voltage Pictures is backing the movie and the cameras should be rolling in October.

It's a definite shift for Efron, who has spent the last few years largely working on comedies. His next attempt to nab laughs will be Baywatch, due out on 29 May here.
