Long lurking in the sort of movie development limbo that has doomed projects to linger on, never quite seeing the calming light of green that means things will actually happen, Bad Boys For Life, the much-mooted third instalment of the action comedy franchise has finally started to take some steps forward. And today, stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence gave the strongest sign yet that they'll be back.

UsingSmith's Instagram account, the pair made a shouty announcement video, which adds more concrete confirmation. That's in addition to the fact that it's had actual directors actually attached for a while now (Belgian pair Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah) and a current script by Chris Bremner.

Smith's schedule and the changing roster of filmmakers and script drafts have been holding this one back, but with the cameras now set to roll early next year and a 17 January, 2020 release date on the books, detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett are, as the guys say here, back. Given the history of this one, we'll wait until the first set pictures start to sneak online before we slide it into the Really Real column.
