We've become accustomed to getting updates about future Fast & Furious movies primarily from VNN, that is the Vin News Network, or Vin Diesel's Facebook page. He's taken to the social media channel in a typically effusive video to announce that director Justin Lin and co-star Jordana Brewster will be back for the next films, and in Brewster's case, probably the next two.
Actually, Vin being Vin, he doesn't truly specify, but it appears to be the plan for Lin to return to the franchise he helped refresh as it wraps up what Diesel keeps calling the final chapters. Do we truly believe that the Fast franchise will be allowed to head to the cinematic junkyard? Unlikely, but that's for the producers to decide.
Diesel was talking from a "secret" set, so there's a chance we're getting more Fast content before the ninth movie arrives – slightly delayed – in 2020. Either that, or they're still shooting elements for the Fast touring show in the works.
Regardless, the latest on this particular series is that the Dwayne Johnson/Jason Statham-starring spin-off is due in 2019, followed by the aforementioned Fast 9. And Brewster's Mia Toretto, whose story seemingly closed following the death of co-star Paul Walker, will be back to kick ass.
