It's got to be a daunting job re-imagining one of the most iconic creations in horror. But that's the task taken on by the team behind the new cinematic adaptation of Stephen King's It. You can now see the full costume for Bill Skarsgård, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, below.
While Tim Curry's version for the 1990 TV movie favoured a colourful, sneak-attack approach to its true nature, it appears director Andy Muschietti and costume designer Janie Bryant have gone for full-on timeless terror.
“The costume definitely incorporates all these otherworldly past lives, if you will,” Bryant tells EW. “He is definitely a clown from a different time. There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume. The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.”
Still, you have to imagine that the young heroes of the first movie (two are planned, one with the characters as kids, the other as grownups, mirroring the split nature of King's book) will instantly know that this guy is trouble. It will also feature Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher and Nicholas Hamilton and arrives (the first part, at least) on September 8 next year.
