Some authors see an uptick of adaptations of their work after a movie based on it is a hit. But even though he just saw It become a monster success, Stephen King doesn't need the boost. A steady stream of his writing is always seemingly in development and now we have The Fault In Our Stars/New Mutants director Josh Boone brought on board to adapt The Talisman.

While he's usually found directing movies, Boone is currently only attached to write this one, though we'd imagine there is the option for more. Frank Marshall is producing the film, which aims to adapt the 1984 bestseller that King wrote with Peter Straub.

The Talisman follows young Jack Sawyer, who travels from New Hampshire to California to save his cancer-stricken mother. On his journey, he learns of an alternate universe called The Territories where twinners – parallel versions of people – live. He'll need to venture across the States and enter The Territories to find the object that gives the book its title.

This won't be Boone's first runaround with King, as he was previously working on a film based on The Stand. Though that has since vanished into limbo, he's also adapting the author's Revival.

New Mutants will be out on 13 April next year.
