Seemingly appropriate given its title, Robert Downey Jr's next non-Marvel movie, The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle, is on the move. With several films switching release dates in recent days, it's also being pushed, a January 2020 slot in its sights.
The plan, apparently, is to move it from the more competitive April 2019 berth and give it a chance to shine where there are fewer big movies and other four-quadrant fare has had a chance to shine, including the likes of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, which earned the lion's share of its successful haul after Christmas.
So Universal is betting that the same could work for Dolittle, which features Downey Jr. as the titular animal-talking medic, with Michael Sheen and Antonio Banderas among those sharing the live-action screen and Octavia Spencer, Emma Thompson, Tom Holland and Ralph Fiennes just a few of the voice roles for the various creatures.
Stephen Gaghan is in the director's chair after having taken over the script from Tom Shepherd and we'll have to wait and see the exact UK date. The new US slot is 17 January, but given that it was previously looking to release here a week earlier, the same may be true in 2020.
