Quentin Tarantino and Tom Cruise

A new Quentin Tarantino movie is always an event and the writer/director is busy putting the pieces together for his next film, the ninth in his career. He's reportedly already been talking to past stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio about roles in the movie, and, according to Deadline, he's also held conversations with Tom Cruise.

There are few confirmed details about the plot, but the script is reportedly set in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and Tarantino is hoping that Margot Robbie will play the role of real-life actress Sharon Tate. While speculation had been rife that he'd be featuring the Charles Manson story, he's since said that it won't focus on that, but will be set against the backdrop of the man's murders.

There has also been a wrinkle in that Tarantino has moved the film away from The Weinstein Company following the revelations about former company boss Harvey Weinstein. The director has recruited a new producer for this film, with Harry Potter veteran David Heyman stepping aboard. And, somewhat naturally, with Tarantino on the hunt for a new financing/distribution partner, every company in Hollywood and beyond is trying to woo him. Variety reports that the likes of Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony have all been rolling out the red carpet for him, pitching their ideas for marketing and more.

Whether Cruise, DiCaprio or Pitt actually join the film is still up in the air, but regardless of cast, Tarantino is looking to shoot in Los Angeles starting mid-next year for release in 2019.
