Paramount has tried a few times to make Jack Ryan work as a cinematic character, but he's seemingly found a place on TV via the John Krasinski-starring series. So there's room for fellow Tom Clancy creation John Clark to take his place, and the studio has chosen Michael B. Jordan to play him in two potential films.
According to Variety, two of the Clark books, Without Remorse and Rainbow Six are in development, and Remorse is looking like it could be the first choice, since it allows for an origin story. Clark, AKA John Terrence Kelly, is an ex-Navy Seal-turned-operations officer for the CIA who appears in Clancy 17 novels starting with 1988’s The Cardinal Of The Kremlin. Though mainly seen as a secondary character who helps Ryan with more of the physical elements of any mission, Clark finally stepped into the spotlight with the tome, which showed how he came to work for the agency.
Akiva Goldsman, already overseeing the expanding Transformers universe, will be shepherding this one, with Jordan and co. now searching for writers to come up with scripts. The actor becomes the latest to take on the Clark mantle, with previous players including Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber.
As for Jordan's next jobs, he's back as Adonis Johnson in Creed II, out on 30 November, and is at work on biopic Just Mercy.
