Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn will be the established anchor of Warner Bros./DC's Birds Of Prey film, but she'll be surrounded by a cast of female characters. And now, as with any superhero film, we've reached the stage of reading, testing and shortlists, with Sofia Boutella, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and more.
As the producers plus director Cathy Yan start to narrow down who they want, Deadline has heard that a variety of actors are in contention for the various other characters.
For Huntress, it's Boutella, Winstead, Black Mirror's Christina Milioti, and The Nice Guys' Margaret Qualley. One Day At A Time's Justina Machado and Vida's Roberta Colindrez could potentially play Rene Montoya, a detective with the Gotham City Police Department. And then there's Black Canary, known for her shrieking cry. Mbatha-Raw and Underground's Jurnee Smollett-Bell are possible fits for that character.
The all-girl gang will be on a mission to battle Batman villain Black Mask with an assist from Cassandra Caine. Bumblebee's Christina Hodson wrote the script, and Robbie will be one of the producers. Prey's cameras should be rolling next year and we'll know more about who is playing what in the coming weeks.
