Margot Robbie-starring DCEU movie Birds Of Prey (or to use it'a apparent full title, Birds Of Prey And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) already has one villain ready to do some wrong in the shape of Ewan McGregor's Black Mask. It's adding another, as Sharp Objects' Chris Messina will play Victor Zsasz.
He'll appear in the film led by Robbie (back as Harley), Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell's Black Canary, Rosie Perez' Renee Montoya and Ella Jay Basco's Cassandra Cain as the women battle the bad guys.
The character of Zsasz was first introduced in Batman: Shadow Of The Bat #1 in June 1992 as part of Batman: The Last Arkham series. He was the head of his own international company, a rich guy who is still rich from his family’s fortune. At 25, his parents die in a boating accident and plummets into a deep depression losing himself in gambling, and ultimately everything to the Penguin. He tries to commit suicide, but after killing a homeless man, he becomes addicted to killing and is known for slitting his victims’ throats and leaving them in lifelike poses, while adding a tally mark to himself each time...
Sounds like the film is certainly setting up a rich dudes= evil vibe. Messina joins a cast that has also swelled to include Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Ali Wong and Matthew Willig, though we don't yet known what they'll be playing.
Cathy Yan's in the director's chair, working from a script by Christina Hodson. It'll be out in the States on 7 February 2020, and while there has been no official announcement, we can expect it around the same time here.
