There always seem to be longish periods of waiting between news updates about Elizabeth Banks' planned reboot of Charlie's Angels. But solid casting details about the three main characters has finally arrived, with Kristen Stewart confirmed alongside Power Rangers' Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.
Variety reports that Banks will also step in front of the camera, taking on the role of Bosley for the film. Jay Basu and Banks worked together on the most recent draft of the script, which will see a new generation of Angels working for the mysterious Charlie, who has built the Townsend Agency into a global security enterprise providing protection and intelligence services for a variety of private clients.
"Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s," Banks says in a statement. "This film honours the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world." The film is taking aim at a release date that recently shifted to September 2019.
Stewart needs little introduction, while Scott's next big film gig is playing Jasmine in the new Disney take on Aladdin. Balinska, meanwhile, is stoll a relative newcomer to the big screen, building her CV through telly work on the likes of Midsomer Murders and Casualty.
