Just last month, the hope of a third Bill And Ted movie rose to the highest level yet, with stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter confirming that it's closer than ever. Now, at Cannes, the film – called Bill & Ted Face The Music was officially announced.

Reeves and Winter are back to star as the titular duo, here older and dealing with the fact that they've yet to fulfill their destiny and write the greatest song ever, one prophesied to help make the world into a peaceful utopia. As the fabric of time and space tears around them, a visitor from the future arrives to warn them that their song is more necessary than ever. Bill and Ted embark on a new time travel adventure – with their daughters – to round up more historical figures for inspiration in an effort to set things right.

Original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have written the new script, with director Dean Parisot in pre-production on the film for MGM. The international rights are up for grabs at the Cannes Film Market. "We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again," Reeves and Winter said in a statement carried by Variety. "Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm, we’ve got a dream team!"

No release date has yet been announced, but we're keeping everything crossed that the film arrives within the next couple of years.
