The Meg

After the year that was 2017, the idea of an upcoming film that sees Jason Statham face-off against a massive shark is music to our ears. As The Stath quite rightly puts it, “who doesn’t want to watch a film about the biggest shark that’s ever existed?”

The shark in question is ‘The Meg’, a prehistoric supershark that didn’t get the memo when all its mates went extinct. “I play a former navy captain and diver,” Statham tells Empire, “and I get hired to rescue a team of scientists who are trapped at the bottom of the sea in their research station by a giant shark. Then all hell breaks loose.” Check out a rather creepy-looking Meg below:

Director Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) is the man taking control of the megalodon, and he’s keen to point out the credible explanation for the beast hanging around. “Think of it as a blind alley of evolution,” he tells Empire. “Our fish found a haven in the unexplored ocean, and has only just been disturbed after all this time.”

Will Statham’s Captain Jonas Taylor survive? Will we get to see Statham punch a shark? Find out when The Meg arrives on 10 August.
