Viewers of Westworld – slight spoiler alert if you're not caught up – know that Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores has been messing with Teddy's (James Marsden) mind in more ways than one. Looks like one of the effects is persuading him to star in the new live-action/CG hybrid Sonic The Hedgehog.
A film based on Sega's speedy blue mascot, the star of any number of video games and more than one cartoon, has been in the works for a while now. Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz is spearheading the effort, with Paramount the latest studio to nab the rights. Deadpool director Tim Miller is an executive producer, and his Blur Studios colleague Jeff Fowler is directing.
While the game usually features Sonic collecting rings and battling the evil schemes of Doctor Robotnik, no one involved has revealed if the movie will follow that story or craft one of its own. And whether Marsden is voicing Sonic or playing a human who meets him (much as he worked alongside an animated critter in Hop), has yet to be seen.
In addition to Westworld, Marsden is rumoured to be returning as Prince Edward for the planned Enchanted, Disenchanted.
