Because what TV was crying out for is another superhero, US network The CW is developing a new series based on Batwoman.
Former Vampire Diaries producer Caroline Dries is overseeing the show, working alongside superhero overlord Greg Berlanti, who already has approximately 1,675 shows on the air, including the anchor shows based in the DC universe including Arrow and The Flash.
And whoever ends up playing Batwoman will actually show up alongside the heroes of those shows, as she'll crop up in one of the DCTV's annual crossovers later this year. The character is Kate Kane, a woman with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind. She'll also mark the first LGBTQ title hero in a live-action show, fighting crime as an out lesbian. The series, though, will follow her growth to become the hero that she ends up being.
While Batwoman has appeared in animated series before, this will be her live-action lead character debut, but first she has to make her mark on the crossover before the channel decides if the stand-alone show is worth putting into production.
