Disney is looking to stay in the Emily Blunt business. With her gracing screens as the title character in Mary Poppins Returns later this year, the Mouse House has now hired her to star with Dwayne Johnson in Jungle Cruise.

Based on the titular theme park ride, the film has been in development at Disney for years, hoping to spark the same sort of franchise that grew from Pirates Of The Caribbean. In its current form, Jaume Collet-Serra is in the director's captain's chair, with Michael Green providing the most recent draft of the script.

Not much has been said about the actual story, though we can expect river-set action and some comedy, with Variety ferreting out that the team want to channel the spirit of 1951 adventure drama The African Queen, which starred Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. Disney bosses are reportedly thrilled with how Blunt is playing Poppins and will be pinning their hopes on some Bogie-Hepburn chemistry with The Rock.

The cameras should be rolling this May, but the release date has yet to be announced. Before Poppins pops up, Blunt will be seen in horror thriller A Quiet Place, which is out here on 6 April.
