Denzel Washington has played lawyers before, most famously in Philadelphia. He's starring as a very different sort of attorney in Dan Gilroy's new thriller, Roman Israel, Esq., as the first image from the film attests.
The title character is a driven, idealistic, but reclusive defence lawyer who has worked for decades as a legal researcher for his beloved mentor. But when the older man passes away, he's snapped up by a well-known, but far more cutthroat firm where he discovers a case that changes his life... And could potentially threaten it.
And playing the slick, wealthy legal eagle who initially recruits Washington to his new job? That would be Colin Farrell.
Written and directed by Gilroy, and once known as Inner City, the film is having its world premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. UK audiences will see it from 1 December this year.
