Though official ratings for Netflix are hard to come by, The Crown certainly appears to be doing well, especially in terms of buzz and the brace of trophies it picked up at the SAG Awards for Claire Foy and John Lithgow. Series 2 has started shooting and will now include Michael C. Hall and Jodi Balfour as John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy.
The new run of episodes will find soldiers of Her Majesty's (Foy) armed forces battling an illegal war in Egypt and sees the downfall of Harold Macmillan in scandal and disgrace. The show will hit the 1960s, which means John and Jackie Kennedy showing up at Buckingham Palace with their own issues – John's the consummate charmer, but doesn't take kindly to being upstaged by his wife.
And there's also word that Matthew Goode has been confirmed for the show, playing Tony Armstrong-Jones, the bohemian photographer who will romance and marry Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby).
Netflix has yet to confirm when the new series will hit the streaming service, though it's likely to be later this year.
